What Happens Between Your Browser and the Mobile

Intercalling relies on WebRTC to turn the audio from your browser into VoIP packets. Those packets are then passed through local GSM gateways so they can land on the mobile phone you dialled.

1. Browser Audio

Your microphone audio is digitised and encrypted right inside the browser through WebRTC. No plugins needed.

2. VoIP Routing

That data crosses the internet to the data center closest to you, where it is converted for the telephone network.

3. Mobile Termination

From there the call is passed to a local mobile carrier such as AT&T or Vodafone as a standard voice call.

Internet calls to mobile: your questions answered

Can I place a free internet call to a mobile?

Yes. Your very first call on Intercalling costs nothing. From then on you are on pay as you go, with no subscription and no connection fee, so the only thing you pay for is the minutes you actually talk.

Does the person I am calling need an app or data?

No. The call lands on their handset as an ordinary mobile call, so they pick up exactly as they would for anyone else. There is no app to install, no account to open and no internet connection needed on their side.

Can I dial a cell phone straight from my computer?

Yes. Intercalling works inside your web browser on a laptop, desktop, tablet or phone. You tap the number on the on screen keypad and speak through your device microphone and speakers.

Is a SIM card or any download required?

No. Nothing gets installed and no SIM card is needed. It all runs in the browser, which helps when indoor signal is weak or when you are travelling and want to sidestep roaming charges.

Which countries and networks are reachable?

You can call mobile and landline numbers in more than 190 countries across hundreds of carriers worldwide. Simply enter the complete number with its country code in front, for example +1 for the United States.

Does my own number show up on the other end?

Your personal SIM number stays hidden. For extra privacy you can place the call anonymously. Our guide on anonymous calling walks through how that works.
