0845 Numbers
Cost You Money.
From a mobile, an 0845 call can quietly run up a steep per minute bill. See what the Access Charge and Service Charge add up to before you connect.
Where Your 0845 Per Minute Charge Goes
Under Ofcom's 2015 rules, every call to an 084, 087, or 09 number is priced in two separate pieces.
1. Access Charge
Charged by YOUR own network
Set by EE, O2, Vodafone, etc.
2. Service Charge
Charged by the COMPANY you reach
Chosen by the business owner
Put together, a mobile call can run past 70p per minute.
Smarter Ways to Pay Less
Hunt Down the 0345 Version
Plenty of firms now publish a matching 0345 line alongside their old 0845 one. Calls to 03 numbers cost the same as ordinary landlines (01/02), and they are included in your mobile minutes.
Dial Through Intercalling
When an 0845 call is unavoidable, open our browser-based dialer and pay our low per minute rate instead. Sending the call over the internet often sidesteps the steep "Access Charges" that mobile networks tack on.
Common 0845 Questions
Why do businesses still use 0845 numbers?
In the past they took a slice of each call's cost, a setup known as revenue sharing. With tighter rules now in force and callers growing unhappy, many are switching across to 03 numbers.
Are 0845 calls free at weekends?
That depends on your landline plan. A handful of BT packages fold weekend 0845 calls into the price, though mobile contracts almost never include them.
How does 0845 differ from 0844?
Both belong to the service number family. An 0845 line usually carries a smaller service charge (up to 7p/min), while 0844 can sit a little higher. From a mobile, both still pick up the steep Access Charge.
